the temples have suffered from war, vandalism and poaching, and also from the sheer number of people who come to see them. in addition, the trees, water and time are inexorably pulling the stones apart. restoration work on the temples is an ongoing process, and ranges from reconstructing temples from rubble, to rebuilding standing temples stone-by-stone where there is danger of collapse. |
